Today our P.M. shared a story about Tenali Ram's wit in '' Man Ki Bat ". I have also read a similar story but there is a small difference though the message in both stories is same.

In the story that I read the king wanted a different dish and the chef prepared and served Aubergine ( Baingan ). The king liked the dish and appreciated the chef in his court. Tenali Ram concurred with it saying , '' Sire, this vegetable is the king of vegetables like you are the king of people. You see this vegetable has a crown on its head and no other vegetable has the crown. So, this vegetable is for the royalty ". But next day the king got indisposed as he suffered loose motion due to Aubergine. After recovery the king joined the court and was very annoyed and wanted to punish the chef. But Tenali Ram said, " Sire, the name of this vegetable is Begun i.e. Be-gun. Be means without and gun means quality so this vegetable is without any gun or quality hence it created the problem ". The king retorted that the other day Tenali Ram was saying that this vegetable was the king of vegetables. Tenali Ram replied, " Sire, I work under you and it is my duty to please you. " The king laughed and with his wit Tenali Ram was able to get out of a difficult situation.

Moral: Many a times your wit helps you in getting out of a difficult situation without annoying others.
